The Kalalau Valley in Kauai, Hawaii is truly magical. The view is like none other with red dirt that turns into lush green rolling hills and jagged mountain ridges, then ends in the beautiful blue ocean.
Timing is everything when you make the trip to the Kalalau lookout area. The weather can change so suddenly you’ll barely have a moment to peek over the edge. After a long drive up the mountain and stopping for a bit at the Waimea Canyon lookout we continued down the road until we reached the last viewpoint. I spent about 10 minutes wandering the ridge taking in this incredible natural wonder and was able to capture this image before the clouds came over the mountains and filled in the valley. A heavy rainstorm followed shortly after and I couldn’t see a thing. That 10 minutes was definitely worth the trip though.
