The Fight – Muay Thai Boxing in Thailand

Muay Thai Boxing

[post_thumbnail]I had the opportunity to see a Muay Thai Boxing match in Koh Samui during a recent trip to Thailand. The town of Chaweng, Koh Samui is the place to be for events such as this. During the days before the match Koh Samui was littered with posters on every street corner. Muay Thai Boxing is definitely huge in Thailand.

Muay Thai is a combat sport that uses stand up striking and various clinching techniques. Almost all techniques in muay Thai use the entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch, elbow and block. It is Thailand’s National sport and attracts thousands of spectators depending on who is fighting.

Muay Thai training is started at an early age, just like any other martial arts it is a discipline sport and takes great dedication. The younger Muay Thai Boxers had incredible speed in the ring but the real physical strength was shown by the older fighters. Muay Thai is very exciting to watch and should not be missed if you plan to travel through Thailand.
